Telltale Games of ‘The Walking Dead’ and The Wolf Among Us’ fame has revived it again, and Game of Thrones, the plenteously popular TV series on HBO is back with a bang, this time, for the video-game fanatics.
The journey from a novel to a TV series to a video game:
So, it had all started with George R. R. Martin’s series of epic fantasy novels titled ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ of which, ‘Game of Thrones’ was the very first one. The novel won him a Locus Award in 1997 and was aired in 2011 on the channel HBO as a four-seasoned, forty-episodic series.
2014, Telltale Games has partnered with Ty Corey Frank, story consultant and a personal assistant to Martin, and has come up with a point-and-click graphic adventure game based heavily on the popular TV series’ cast, plot, settings and even the voice-over work.
And, like its trademark pattern in previous projects, Telltale’s Game of Thrones, too, would be extended over a six-episode series with graphics similar to ‘The Walking Dead’ and The Wolf Among Us’. Only, this time, a new painterly style for the graphics has been added to enhance the feel of fantasy of the entire gameplay more vividly. So, the game will look like a picture coming to life, much like Assassin’s Creed, Alan Wake and the rest in the league.
About Game of Thrones, the video game:
At present, the release of the first episode of the game, ‘Iron from Ice’, has been planned for platforms that include PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and other compatible iOS devices. The storyline is set to begin toward the end of season three of the TV series and shall end before the beginning of season five.
It shall remain restricted to a five-character gameplay, with the story unfolding on House Forrester, the lesser known fictional house from the north of Westeros, and hovering over Ironrath, the home of House Forrester. Forrester went unrevealed in the TV series, yes, but has a mention in ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’ by the author, more specifically in ‘A Dance with Dragons’ of the novel series. Other familiar locations that have been retained are Kin’s Landing and The Wall.
The five central characters that Game of Thrones has, aren’t exactly same as the those of the TV series. Instead, they have been kept subtly similar, all belonging to House Forrester. So, basically, it is a new storyline based, somewhat, on the storyline within the original fictional land of Westeros. But, of course, Telltale promises to retain a few, major characters with the original actors playing the roles, for you to meet. How the story unwinds depends a lot upon the choice of characters. It’s a different, unique tale with each of them and shall greatly determine how things turn up for the later episodes.
Requirements for the gamers:
It isn’t a multiplayer video game. The minimum PC requirements include XP Service Pack 3, a Core 2 Duo 2GHz Processor, a memory of at least 3GB RAM, 8 GB of free space, Intel integrated graphics card or ATI or NVidia cards, DirectX version 9.0c, and Snow Leopard 10.6.X OS for Mac.
With the official trailer already out (Well, Telltale is very, very stringent with leaking information prior to the release of something) it’s quite clear how Game of Thrones, the video game would look a lot like the TV series itself. But, there would be more twists to this political saga of fantasy lands. So, fall winter, it’s blood, violence and gore coming to your gaming devices.
Wonder how Tyrion’s hair would appear in the game…
